Beginning Experience | Auckland
Grief resolution for adults and children affected by divorce, separation or loss of a parent/partner
The Beginning Experience New Zealand is part of the world wide organisation, all working with the common goal of supporting those men, women and children suffering from grief due to divorce, separation and widowhood.
The loss of a loved one through separation, divorce, or death is one of life's most traumatic experiences. Many people who have suffered this loss feel left out by their community, their church, and feel uneasy around married friends, unsure of themselves and uncertain about their futures. This program is intended for those suffering the loss of a love relationship through death, divorce or separation who are ready to come to terms with that loss and begin to move forward with their lives.
Through our program we help to facilitate the resolution of grief. The process starts with our weekend progam which helps grieving persons focus on their experience and emerge from the darkness of grief into the light of a new beginning. As part of the Beginning Experience community on going facilitation is available to continue to assist those who want more help in moving forward.
The team members in the Beginning Experience ministry are "wounded healers" - specially trained men and women who are themselves widowed, separated or divorced, but further along in the grieving process.

Daniela Affolter
Psychotherapist | Papakura, New Lynn & online
Life can feel overwhelming and does not always go as planned. It throws us unexpected curveballs, leaving us feeling anxious, depressed, sad, bewildered, grieving, and confused. In those times, it can feel like we are at a crossroads – not knowing which path to choose. Talking with a non-judgmental and empathetic therapist can be an important first step towards healing and clarity.
I provide relational and emotion-focused psychotherapy to individuals who would like support during difficult times to make sense of their emotions, experiences, and way of being in the world. I believe in the profound impact of reconnecting our emotions (feelings) to our bodies, as all too often in society, we spend too much time in our ‘heads’ without listening to what the body tells us. I offer a safe space to build a trusting therapeutic relationship to explore what lies beneath the struggles that brought you to therapy. Such exploration helps grow our self-understanding and self-awareness, often leading to more authentic and fulfilling ways of being in the world.

Ellerslie Osteopaths
We can take care of all your ailments and injuries. We are fully qualified and experienced in cranial osteopathy and structural osteopathic techniques and are specifically skilled to examine patients and ascertain which type of osteopathy is the appropriate treatment for you.
Osteopathy is best known for relief of back pain, but there are a range of problems that can be treated with thoughtful hands-on osteopathic treatment. Osteopathy improves the flow of blood though the tissues, thereby improving the physiology, improving healing and reducing pain.
Modern medicine has become very good at keeping people alive, but may provide less effective remedies for the 95% percent of complainants who are not dying, but are not feeling well either.
Osteopathy can be very useful for those complaints that are debilitating but which conventional medicine cannot treat, or as an adjunct to more serious conditions. Improving blood flow will always be helpful to your health.

Born in England, I moved here in 2004 and since that time I have transitioned from working in the creative industry to a career in the helping professions. I have worked as a counsellor in the following organisations; Home and Family Counselling, Family Works Northern, ManAlive, and The Youth Health Hub – HealthWEST. Relevant qualifications include a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling, a Grad Diploma in Psychology, and a BA (Hons) in Communications. Additionally, I hold certificates and ongoing training in (NVC) Non-Violent Communication, (IFS) Internal Family Systems, and Hakomi.
Supporting a diverse range of clients, I provide a respectful, intuitive, and non-invasive way of working where curiosity, pragmatism, compassion, and insight are the main drivers of the work. The primary psychotherapeutic modalities that guide my approach are; Rogerian/person-centred, Internal Family Systems, Hakomi, NVC (Non-Violent Communication), and Narrative Therapy.
I bring an honest, warm, and hopeful stance to relating with people. Having lived many experiences throughout my life, I can hold multiple perspectives across a wide range of concerns to help other possibilities for change emerge.
An established meditator and spiritual enquirer of many years, I have an authentic, experiential understanding of the journey of spiritual transformation and I enjoy sharing in these conversations if the invitation arises. Part of the work we may undertake if relevant to your needs could involve certain guided meditations to deepen your connection with awareness, acceptance, and self-compassion. Supporting others in strengthening self-compassion is a cornerstone of my practice and a fundamental aspect of healing as I see it.
Outside of work, I treasure hanging out with my kids, surfing, being in nature, painting, writing, meditating, catching up with friends, and making new ones along the way.
I look forward to meeting you 🙂

Counsellor, Play Therapist, Parenting Consultant | MNZAC | B.Couns. Grad Dip CPW Child Centred Play Therapy, DipCouns, Cert Psychotherapy and Counselling, Somatic Experiencing Therapist in training | Orewa & online
I am passionate about the power that healthy, loving relationship holds in enabling ones natural drive towards maturity and healthy psychosocial development, towards fulfilling ones potential and the unfolding of one's life giving uniqueness to occur.
This is at the heart of all my practice and is foundational to what I believe is the key to raising resilient, content children and enjoying harmonious relationships.
I believe that children's behaviours are their voice, their way of saying I need something in relationship. They are never purposefully difficult or controlling but are simply following their design of being hard wired to elicit certain relational needs to ensure their healthy development.
My passion is to enable parents to read their children's behaviours and meet their needs in relationship so that the child can rest from their pursuit of attachment and be released to mature.
I work through play with younger children and uses mainly Narrative therapy with older children and adolescents.
I provide parenting consultation and offer play sessions to strengthen the parent-child relationship and facilitate the development of a healthy secure attachment.

Case Manager in Te WhareWhakapiki Wairua (Auckland Alcohol and Other Drug Treatment Court) and
Advanced Practitioner and Clinical Manager with New Zealand’s largest provider of residential treatment
Rob knows most traditional options focus on the problematic behaviour and teaching strategies to manage these behaviours. Sadly for many, this approach is not effective, and people living with these issues become caught in a repeating cycle of treatment, lapse, relapse and back for more treatment.
Using current best practice treatment modalities we are firmly focused on empowering people to build and sustain their wellness and well-being.

Sarah Penwarden
Counsellor for Grief & Loss | Hope for You | Master of Counselling, MNZAC | Henderson/online
Grief can be like finding yourself in the middle of an unfamiliar terrain with no map. As a therapist, I won't give you directions, but will walk with you as you make sense of the 'new normal', and start to move towards the kind of life you want. By the end of a series of sessions, I aim that you'll have a clearer sense of your strengths and resources to help navigate this new terrain. I'll do this through making space for grieving as well as looking for small moments of hope.
Having counselling for grief and loss is not always easy. It takes courage. I specialise in offering a gentle approach that makes conversation possible, as we walk at your own pace.
I have a doctorate in grief counselling and have worked as a counsellor in a variety of settings for 16 years. I offer counselling in person in Henderson, and also via Skype or Zoom.

Counsellor | Ponsonby/Remuera/online
Offering general counselling & also specialising in religious questioning, addiction and behaviour change.
Focus Counselling is about supporting you to focus on what’s really going on. I practice person-centred counselling, utilising other modalities where helpful (CBT, Narrative, Motivational Interviewing, Psychodynamic approaches). Whether you are struggling with relationships, work stress, addiction, grief, or are just ‘feeling stuck’, my role is to act as a supportive guide as you find a way through what you are facing.
I also help those who are struggling with their relationship with the religion in which they were raised. I do not have a goal of leading you 'back to God' or away from your religion and/or your culture; my goal is to provide a safe space for you to explore what can be a painful but growth-filled time.

Equine Therapist, Rocking Horse Therapy | Rotorua
Equine assisted learning (EAL) is a solution focused therapy which can be used as an adjunct to, or independently from, evidence based psychotherapies. EAL provides experiential based learning opportunities to meet personal and therapeutic needs. Based on the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association model (EAGALA, n.d., para. 1-3), horses provide powerful opportunities to develop social and communication skills necessary for healthy, meaningful relationships. Interacting with horses provides unlimited potential for growth and change and has proven successful for individuals experiencing complex health needs (Frewin, K. & Gardinar, B. 2005).
Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) takes place in the natural environment or papatūānuku. Participants learn about themselves and others while interacting and participating in activities with horses outdoors in a paddock. An opportunity to discuss and process feelings, thoughts, and behaviors enables metaphorical and experiential learning, allowing individuals to make their own inferences and find their own solutions.
Research indicates that EAL can be an effective way of providing therapeutic interventions for individuals learning (Schultz et al., 2007, Waite & Bourke., 2013). EAL provides experiential based learning opportunities to promote personal development and meet the therapeutic needs of children and young people in mental health services.

Megan Lindsay
Bachelor of Counselling, Provisional Member of NZAC | Gore
I work honestly and genuinely with a range of issues, in order to make sense of what is causing distress, gaining a different perspective or discovering hidden strengths to help you manage and live, rather than just survive.
People come to counselling for many reasons, and therefore the work we do together can be varied and extensive. I welcome any feedback. I hope you will find me trustworthy and transparent. I intend to work openly and honestly with you and I welcome questions about the purpose of what we are doing.
I have a unique understanding of the isolation of rural living and the independence this requires. Living in a small community requires utmost confidentiality and trust, which you can expect from our conversations.
I work from a person-centred, strengths based perspective, using an array of counselling models to guide my work including Narrative Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. I am interested in how our social world can influence us and our thinking/behaviour/values etc as we do not live in isolation.
I will also consider how your beliefs/faith is impacting on you, and will be curious as to your abilities and resources which have enabled you to manage your life so far. Noticing and accepting the 'here and now', non-judgmentally, is something I consider is important. I believe we can get stuck in patterns which once worked but aren't working anymore, or an event occurs which takes us well away from a coping mechanism. This is where I feel that 'talking therapy' can be useful - looking from outside perspective, with a no-blame point of view... and this is also where honesty is important!
